Uneeda COQUETTE doll 1960's GO GO DANCER - 16" Vintage Doll

$ 12.11

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Type: Doll
  • Condition: Uneeda Coquette doll as a Go Go Girl. She is wearing original bell bottom pants and midi jacket, plus I gave her a seed bead necklace because she needed some "love beads." The outfit is clean but has some stains in the suede finish. This doll is from the early 1960's: she's one of the first Coquette dolls that was made. -- This Coquette is a Glamour Girl, with long platinum blonde hair and she actually has original blue eye makeup. Her green eyes are slightly slanted, which is typical of the early 1960's Coquette dolls. Her long braids were probably long ringlets originally, but the curl was gone so I braided her ponies to keep the hair neat. She is a little less than 16" tall and jointed at neck, shoulders and hips. The head and arms are vinyl, the rest is blow molded plastic. She's in good vintage condition and very clean. Her pretty green eyes are bright with full lashes.

    UNEEDA's COQUETTE
    HISTORY:
    Coquette
    was introduced in 1963, when 16 inch pre-teen dolls were introduced by almost all the major doll companies.  The doll bodies share similar features (most likely came from the same molds), but the faces were unique for each company.  Effanbee offered Gumdrop, Susie and Baby Face dolls in this 16" style. Horsman had a Ruthie doll of course. And Uneeda had Coquette.
    Coquette was made for nearly 15 years and she was sold under several other names including Agatha or Penelope.  She wore all the favorite fashions of the 1960's and 70's.
    Coquette is almost an unknown in doll collector circles, but like B-grade actors she had very steady employment.  For one thing, Coquette was quite a clothes-hound and she modeled whatever was trendy for the time.
    All of the Coquette dolls are dated 1963, even if they were produced later on.  The year 1963 was the first release.
    Coquette has a cute little character face, with big eyes, a little dimple in her chin and her mouth has a bit of an overbite. Her hair was often styled with long ringlets on either side of her face.
    Coquette was produced in multiple sizes. The standard size was 16 inches (actually 15.5" but considered 16".)  There was a tiny Coquette who was 11 inches and there was even a large playpal type that was 32 inches tall.
    Coquette was one of the very first dolls to be made of the new blow-molded plastic material, which was introduced in the early 1960's.
    Coquette was introduced as "The Doll with the Continental Flair."  She was, apparently, a French girl and in an effort to make her appear more exotic her eyes were a little bit slanted. Later dolls did not have the slanted eyes.
