    Description

I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut song below.) ........ This is a rare September 13th, 1957 "Playgoer" playbill from the one week, Pre-Broadway tryout and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the musical comedy flop "COPPER and BRASS" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The show would open October 17th, 1957 at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York City and close after only 36 performances.) ..... The musical starred NANCY WALKER and JOAN BLONDELL (who would be replaced out-of-town by BENAY VENUTA) and featured DICK WILLIAMS, ALICE PEARCE, ALAN BUNCE, NORMA DOUGLAS, PETER CONLOW, EVELYN RUSSELL, DOREEN McLEAN, BYRON MITCHELL, BETTE GRAHAM, JOHN DORRIN, JOANNE SPILLER, JEFF DUNCAN, LARRY MITCHELL, LAURIE FRANKS, BRUCE MACKAY, MICHELE BURKE, DOUG ROGERS, HANK JONES, FRANK REHAK and ERNIE FURTADO ..... CREDITS: Book by ELLEN VIOLETT and DAVID CRAIG; Music by DAVID BAKER; Lyrics by DAVID CRAIG; Sets designed by WILLIAM and JEAN ECKART; Costumes designed by ALVIN COLT; Choreographed by ANNA SOKOLOW; Directed by MARC DANIELS; Produced by LYN AUSTIN and THOMAS NOYES in association with ANDERSON LAWLER ..... DETAILS: The 40 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors as well as head shots of the two stars ..... CUT SONG: The list of musical numbers includes "La Vie Boheme" which was cut out-of-town ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
