This is a rare February 9th, 1953 playbill from the Post-Broadway engagement of the JOHN VAN DRUTEN play "I AM A CAMERA" at the Nixon Theatre in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (The production opened November 28th, 1951 at the Empire Theatre in New York City and ran for 214 performances before going on the road.) ..... The play, which eventually became the basis of the award winning JOHN KANDER and FRED EBB musical "CABARET", starred JULIE HARRIS as "Sally Bowles" (winner of the first of her four Tony Awards for "Best Actress in a Play") and featured CHARLES COOPER, OLGA FABIAN, EDWARD ANDREWS, HARRIET MacGIBBON, WILLIAM ALLYN and JANET DOWD ..... CREDITS: Book by JOHN VAN DRUTEN adapted from the stories of CHRISTOPHER ISHERWOOD; Sets designed by BORIS ARONSON; Costumes designed by ELLEN GOLDSBOROUGH; Staged by JOHN VAN DRUTEN; Produced by GERTRUDE MACY and WALTER STARCKE ..... DETAILS: The eight page playbill measures 5 1/8" X 8 1/2" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes and a bio of JULIE HARRIS, but no cast photos. The front cover features a photo of SIDNEY BLACKMER, NANCY KELLY and DANE CLARK, who would be appearing at the Nixon Theatre the following week in "The Country Girl" ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
