I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... This is a rare autographed January 30th, 1967 playbill from the Pre-Broadway tryout of the JAMES LIPTON and LAURENCE ROSENTHAL musical comedy flop "SHERRY!" at the Colonial Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The production would open March 28th, 1967 at the Alvin Theatre in New York City and close after only 72 performances.) ..... The musical starred GEORGE SANDERS (who would be replaced by CLIVE REVILL during the out-of-town tryouts), DOLORES GRAY and ELIZABETH ALLEN (all three are shown in the cover photo) and featured JON CYPHER, BYRON WEBSTER, JANET FOX, CLIFF HALL, PAULA TRUEMAN, DONALD BURR, MARY LOANE, BARBARA WEBB, MERRITT SMITH and EDDIE LAWRENCE ..... Note: The playbill's cover has been signed by DOLORES GRAY and will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity ..... CREDITS: Book and Lyrics by JAMES LIPTON (Host of Bravo's "Inside the Actor's Studio" and librettist for the Broadway musical "Nowhere To Go But Up") based on "The Man Who Came To Dinner" by GEORGE S. KAUFMAN and MOSS HART; Music by LAURENCE ROSENTHAL; Sets designed by ROBERT RANDOLPH; Costumes designed by ROBERT MACKINTOSH; Choreographed by RONALD FIELD (who would be replaced by JOE LAYTON; Directed by MORTON DA COSTA (who would be replaced by JOE LAYTON); Produced by LEE GUBER, FRANK FORD and SHELLY GROSS ..... DETAILS: The 66 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors and members of the creative team but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos. Includes a full page ad for the Original Broadway Cast recording of "SHERRY!" (available soon) on RCA Victor Records. (Plans to release this album were scrapped but a wonderful studio recording is now available on CD.) ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes "Crockfield" and "I Always Stay at the Ritz" which were cut out-of-town .....
