I'm currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York. (See cut songs below.) ....... Thisis a rare January 27th, 1964 playbill from the Pre-Broadway Tryout and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the JULE STYNE and BOB MERRILL musical comedy hit "FUNNY GIRL" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (Following tryouts in Boston and Philadelphia, the production opened March 26th, 1964 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City and ran for 1348 performances.) ..... The musical marked the first starring role for BARBRA STREISAND as "Fanny Brice" and also starred SYDNEY CHAPLIN as "Nick Arnstein". Featured in the cast were DANNY MEEHAN, KAY MEDFORD, JEAN STAPLETON, ROGER DeKOVEN, JOSEPH MACAULAY, BUZZ MILLER, GEORGE REEDER, RUFUS SMITH, LAINIE KAZAN and ROYCE WALLACE ..... DETAILS: The 34 page playbill measures 6" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors and members of the creative team but with the exception of the front cover and the following ads, no cast photos. The playbill includes full page ads for BARBRA STREISAND's first three solo LP's on Columbia Records (shown in the third scanned image) and the Original Broadway Cast recording of "FUNNY GIRL" on Capitol Records (fifth scanned image) ..... CUT SONGS: The list of musical numbers includes
"Eddie's Fifth Encore"
which was cut in previews and "Took Me a Little Time" which was cut out-of-town ..... BONUS: Includes an insert with the corrected running order of scenes and musical numbers (last scanned image) ..... CONDITION: This rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or BARBRA STREISAND fan. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
