I'm currently listing a large number of playbills representing some of the most memorable Broadway performances of the 1950's and 1960's ....... This is a rare autographed April 13th, 1961 PREMIERE PERFORMANCE playbill from the Original Broadway production of the BOB MERRILL and MICHAEL STEWART musical comedy "CARNIVAL!" which played the Imperial Theatre in New York City. (The production opened April 13th, 1961 and ran for 719 performances.) ..... The musical starred ANNA MARIA ALBERGHETTI (who signed her cover photo) and featured KAYE BALLARD, JAMES MITCHELL, PIERRE OLAF, JERRY ORBACH, HENRY LASCOE, GEORGE MARCY, WILL LEE, PAUL SYDELL and the MARTIN BROTHERS ..... CREDITS: Book by MICHAEL STEWART based on material by HELEN DEUTSCH; Music and Lyrics by BOB MERRILL ("New Girl In Town", "Take Me Along", "Funny Girl", "Henry, Sweet Henry", "Prince of Grand Street", "Breakfast at Tiffany's"); Sets designed by WILL STEVEN ARMSTRONG; Costumes designed by FREDDY WITTOP; Directed and Choreographed by GOWER CHAMPION; Produced by DAVID MERRICK ..... DETAILS: The 42 page playbill measures 6 1/2" X 9" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and bios of each of the leading actors but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos ..... BONUS: The playbill includes a three-page article on composer STEPHEN SONDHEIM who was preparing for the May opening of "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Forum". Also includes a page of photos from CAROL CHANNING's party in honor of GEORGE BURNS ..... CONDITION: With the exception of slight discoloration to some inside pages and light edge wear, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
